Description
In the same year that the ceremonial inauguration of the world-famous Bavaria statue was celebrated on Munich's Theresienhöhe, this porcelain sister, only twenty centimeters tall, left the kiln of the master workshops in Nymphenburg. Ludwig Michael von Schwanthaler, one of the main masters of classical sculpture in southern Germany, was responsible for the development of both designs. He dressed the secular patron saint of Bavaria in a deliberately Germanic manner - in a simply draped dress and bearskin with a raised wreath of oak leaves in her left hand.
