Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg owes one of its most important services of the 20th century to the architect and designer Wolfgang von Wersin. In the New Objectivity style, Wersin designed the Adonis shape for Nymphenburg, which is still one of the manufactory's most beautiful today. The light refracts in the fine grooved relief of the surface and makes the shards appear almost transparent in the play of shadows. The reduced painting emphasises the structure of the timelessly modern form in its simplicity. Designed as a coffee service in 1932, Adonis was also added to the repertoire of the master workshops as a dinner service in 1951/56. Designed with a matt bisque rim or a glazed rim; entirely in white or with a fine, hand-painted decoration in black or 24-carat fine gold, Adonis still embodies precious elegance today.
