Description
Description
With subversive irony, Wim Delvoye questions the standardized values of a consumer oriented society. In 1997 he started the “Art Farm” project, in which he tattooed live pigs with skulls, crosses and Louis Vuitton logos in order to “literally increase” their value. His best-known projects include “Cloaca”, an expansive digestive machine that converts food into feces, and his “Gothic Works”, oversized laser-cut steel sculptures designed in the Flemish Baroque style of the 17th century. Concrete mixers or rockets carry meticulously crafted ornaments and details of Gothic architecture. Most recently, Delvoye made headlines when he applied for three concepts to rebuild Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral. Wim Delvoye, born in 1965, lives and works in Belgium.
