Description
Carsten Höller's artistic work is based on scientific processes. As early as 1993, the object and installation artist exhibited in the “Aperto” section of the Venice Biennale, at which he finally participated in the Swedish pavilion in 2005 in collaboration with Miriam Bäckström. His works often invite the viewer to partake in order to evoke aesthetic or emotional experiences in a very direct way, such as the gigantic slides that he installed in the turbine hall of the Tate Gallery in London in 2006, or the animal enclosure at the Hamburger Bahnhof in 2010, where paying guests could stay overnight. Swedish fashion label Acne exhibited one of his oversized mushroom sculptures in their Los Angeles store in 2013. In June 2014, the 31 metre tall Vitra slide designed by Höller was opened in Weil am Rhein.
