King Ludwig III
King Ludwig III. was the last Bavarian king. After Prince Regent Luitpold's death, Ludwig the III whos true passion was agriculture, his eldest son, succeeded. As a conservative Catholic king and close to the people, he was able to win the respect and affection of Bavaria. Bavaria had belonged to the German Empire since 1871 and was consequently forced to take part in the First World War. With the proclamation of the Free State of Bavaria on November 7, 1918 Ludwig III. unseated as king. In 1919 the Bäuml brothers, as tenants of Nymphenburg, founded an open trading company with the title “Staatliche Porzellanmanufaktur Nymphenburg”. The manufacture continued as such until 1975.
